ABOUT AIM

Founded in 2008, Artists in Motion (AIM) entered a new chapter in 2015 when it officially became a B3 organization — Black-led, Black-focused, and Black-serving. Under the leadership of founder Shameka Blake-Green, AIM has grown into a multidisciplinary dance company dedicated to amplifying Black culture, storytelling, and social justice through movement.

MISSION STATEMENT

AIM’s mission is to motivate current and future generations by uplifting Black voices and addressing the social and systemic barriers that impact Black artists in the performing arts. We are committed to building balanced and sustainable career pathways while cultivating an environment where emerging Black artists can thrive. Our work centres representation, empowerment, and truth-telling, creating space for authentic expression and community building.

AIM is committed to collaborating and serving the
arts community with excellence through dance.

ARTISTIC VISION

AIM’s artistic vision exists at the intersection of dance, cultural identity, and social justice. Productions such as Black in Canada and ASHES offer immersive explorations of Black history, identity, and lived experience, using movement as a catalyst for dialogue, reflection, and change. Through traditional and contemporary dance forms, multimedia integration, and multidisciplinary collaboration, AIM crafts performances that challenge dominant narratives and celebrate the richness of Black culture.

At the core of our artistic practice is a steadfast commitment to making space— space for Black artists, Black stories, and Black futures. By elevating these voices on local and global stages, AIM continues to expand the reach and impact of Black creative expression.

OUR TEAM

Dedication. Expertise. Passion.
